# INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the official CY-Tools Documentation.

As a 3D artist working in the domain for more than a decade, I decided to start making tools for speeding up certain processes of mine that were repetitive or a bit tedious and wanted to share those tools with the Blender community. Some add-ons out there are doing similar things, some with extreme complexity. I personally set out to create a minimal, user-friendly set of tools that are affordable and to the point. \
\
You can find information about all the current tools under the suite, including:

* [INSTAFOG](/instafog)\
  Create cloud-like fog in one click - Instantly adds a cube in your scene with a Principled Volume configured to appear like a cloud under both EVEE and Cycles renderer.
* [LIGHTGEN](/lightgen)\

# INSTAFOG

A Blender addon for instantly adding a cube in your scene with a Principled Volume configured to appear like a cloud under both EVEE and Cycles renderer.

<figure><img src="/files/MQhbl9Ia2bqZGPYeu5x4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Usage

Access the addon's panel:

1. Open a 3D Viewport in Blender.
2. In the 3D Viewport, locate the Tool Shelf on the right side.
3. Look for the "CY-Tools" tab and click it to reveal the "CY-Tools Instafog " panel.

<figure><img src="/files/OSZXiSOIHyXMsxGoOIon" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The properties are set to the following by default to achieve a cloud look with the Principle Volume using a Musgrave texture. Make sure you have lights in your scene to view the fog properly and feel free to play around with the values. The following should be considered:

* Scale: This parameter controls the size of the texture. A larger scale value will create a more detailed texture with smaller features, while a smaller scale value will create a smoother texture with larger features.

<div><figure><img src="/files/CiwYc3FlamYFQKmpatUL" alt=""><figcaption><p>Scale: 2.4</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/j6GPOpG56U2JAShAtYTN" alt=""><figcaption><p>Scale: 0.7</p></figcaption></figure></div>

* Detail: This parameter controls the amount of high-frequency detail in the texture. A higher detail value will create a more complex texture with more small-scale variations, while a lower detail value will create a simpler texture with fewer variations.
* Dimension: This parameter controls the overall shape of the texture. Higher values will create a more flat, two-dimensional texture, while lower values will create a more three-dimensional texture with bumps and ridges.
* Lacunarity: This parameter controls the variation in feature size within the texture. A lower lacunarity value will create a more uniform texture with less variation in feature size, while a higher lacunarity value will create a more varied texture with larger and smaller features mixed together.&#x20;

<div><figure><img src="/files/haTXc7GfeSnwEY2zQBnC" alt=""><figcaption><p>Lacunarity: 1.0</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/LtXItRxQJRl88j2GLeNT" alt=""><figcaption><p>Lacunarity: 1.4</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Recommendations:&#x20;

**FOR EVEE:**

<figure><img src="/files/GkLorjh7L4MMIAvN1mup" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Make sure to have a look at Render Properties > Volumetrics parameters. If you have a performing GPU, you can easily set the tile size to 2px to get a more crisp fog, as well as make sure to enable Volumetric Shadows. I personally got good results with Distribution and Light Clamping to 0.<br>

**FOR CYCLES:**

For more control over rendering go to Render Properties > Light Paths parameters.\
Change the "Volume" value from 0 to a value between 4 to 12 or above depending on your hardware.&#x20;

Under Render Properties > Volumes, change the Max Steps to control how many samples the volume will render with. You can lower this in case of extremely long render times.<br>

<figure><img src="/files/nxW9NU55ME1sep0XutZa" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

I also recommended to using INSTAFOG in combination with the [COLORIZER ](/colorizer)addon.

# WIGGLER

A simple Blender addon that enables users to add random noise to the rotations of selected objects, either mesh or camera, via a GUI in the 3D Viewport's Tool shelf.

### Usage

Access the addon's panel:

1. Open a 3D Viewport in Blender.
2. In the 3D Viewport, locate the Tool Shelf on the right side.
3. Look for the "CY-Tools" tab and click it to reveal the addon panel.

The `strength` and `scale` values are properties that control the noise applied to the rotations of selected objects.

<figure><img src="/files/ILQRVrd0kl3O14dViLwL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. Strength: The `strength` value determines the intensity or magnitude of the noise effect on the object's rotations. A higher strength value results in more significant variations in the object's rotations, while a lower value leads to subtler changes. The strength property has a default value of 0.5, and the user can set it between 0 (no noise) and 10 (maximum noise).
2. Scale: The `scale` value controls the frequency of the noise effect. A higher scale value results in a slower, more gradual change in the object's rotations, giving the impression of a smoother, less erratic motion. Conversely, a lower scale value leads to rapid, frequent fluctuations in the rotations, creating a more chaotic and erratic motion. The scale property has a default value of 15, and the user can set it between 0 (extremely high-frequency noise) and 100 (very low-frequency noise).

<figure><img src="/files/iqMfvp104k7bBwYQLFZW" alt=""><figcaption><p>Applied to a cube mesh</p></figcaption></figure>

### Recommendations

I personally built this script to quickly get some camera noise modifiers going in a blink as I felt the whole keyframing process took a little while, I used some addons, but then I figured why not make my own very minimal version. This is a great way to instantly add a handheld effect to your camera.

# CYGPT

These are experimental tools that bring the power of OpenAI's GPT models to your Blender workflow, from writing and executing scripts on the spot from a prompt, to generating textures.

#### 1. Cy-GPT: Operator

`Cy-GPT: Operator` leverages the capabilities of the GPT model. It acts as a co-pilot, generating Python scripts based on your textual input and executing them directly within Blender. Essentially, the GPT model translates your text input into a Python script, which is then immediately executed, thereby making complex scripting tasks more accessible and user-friendly.

Besides generating and executing scripts, `Cy-GPT: Operator` also maintains a list of previously generated scripts, providing options to open or delete scripts as needed. This enhances script management and helps maintain a clean and organized scripting environment.

#### 2. Cy-GPT: Blendalle

`Cy-GPT: Blendalle` provides another kind of integration of AI within Blender. By leveraging OpenAI's DALL-E, an innovative image generator, `Blendalle` can create textures from textual prompts. This feature allows you to generate intricate textures directly within Blender by simply providing a descriptive prompt, transforming the way you design and conceptualize materials.

#### 3. Installation

1. Downloaded the latest zip through the Blender Market page.
2. Open Blender, go to Edit > Preference > Addons > `Installl...`
3. Locate and select the downloaded Python script file and click `Install Add-on`
4. In the Add-ons tab, search for "Cy-GPT" in the search bar. Check the checkbox next to the addon's name to enable "Cy-GPT: Operator" and "Cy-GPT: Blendalle".
5. Input your API Key provided by OpenAI.

#### 4. Author and License&#x20;

Cy-Tools is a suite of Blender Addons created by @cyrusjameskhan and\
licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). See [LICENSE](/license) for more information.

# Blendalle

Cy-GPT: Blendall-E is a Blender add-on that integrates OpenAI's DALL-E APIs into Blender. This allows you to generate images using OpenAI's DALL-E directly from within the Blender environment.

<figure><img src="/files/hkw92dM7yusZ9kltnH0d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Usage

After installing the add-on, go to the "Image Editor" panel in Blender. In the sidebar, you'll see a new panel labeled "Cy-GPT: Blendall-e".

In the panel, you'll find:

* A "Prompt" field: Enter a description of the image you want to generate.
* A "Size" dropdown: Select the resolution of the generated image. Options include 256x256, 512x512, and 1024x1024.
* A "Generate" button: Click this to generate the image.

<figure><img src="/files/7SKl98FCA18Yi1kFWFie" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Limitations and Warnings

You must use your own API key to interact with OpenAI's DALL-E API. Also, please be aware that DALL-E's API is subject to usage limitations as specified by OpenAI's API terms and conditions.

# Operator

The "Cy-GPT: Operator" is a Blender add-on that uses the LLMs (Large Language Models) to generate and run scripts based on user input. It essentially serves as a co-pilot, generating Python scripts and executing them directly in Blender.

<figure><img src="/files/9RWWhYIC9nAsMktrimXQ" alt=""><figcaption><p>Interface example</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/4itPb8zjGmzGwPa51qYa" alt=""><figcaption><p>Automated script result</p></figcaption></figure>

### Usage

Access the addon's panel:

1. Open a 3D Viewport in Blender.
2. In the 3D Viewport, locate the Tool Shelf on the right side.
3. Look for the "CY-Tools" tab and click it to reveal the "Blender Transformer" panel.

After you have entered your API key from OpenAI, you can proceed to type in a prompt, here are a couple of examples:\
\
`" Create 5 cubes in a row"`

`"Make the world background color red"`&#x20;

`"Add 10 lights at random positions"`

`"Create a camera that constantly looks at the center cube"`

`"Delete all the lights in the scene"`

`"Rotate all the objects in the scene randomly"`

`"Render the selected cameras"`<br>

The GPT model will process the user input and generate a Python script as per the request, which will be executed directly in Blender. The AI Response field shows the script generated by the GPT model.

The add-on maintains a list of generated scripts, which are displayed under the "Generated Scripts" section. Each script can be opened in the Text Editor or deleted from the list.

### Recommendations

Try to be concise with your information such as specifying the exact number of items your are looking to generate.&#x20;

### Limitations and Warnings

Please remember this addon is very experimental and will occasionally cause Blender to crash. Moreover, the current base dataset was based on information about Blender that is already outdated for a lot of tasks (2019-2021). For instance with the prompt "Change the background color to ultraviolet" it will most likely work, but not in the newer world node shading system. If you untick "Use-Nodes" in your world properties, you will see the color displaying.&#x20;

These issues will hopefully be solved in the future as I iterate on this tool to include a fine tuned model as well.

You must use your own API key to interact with OpenAI's API. Also, please be aware that the API is subject to usage limitations as specified by OpenAI's terms and conditions.

### Installation

* Downloaded the latest zip.
* Open Blender, go to Edit > Preference > Addons > `Install...`
* Locate and select the downloaded Python script file and click `Install Add-on`
* In the Add-ons tab, search for "CY-GPT" in the search bar. Check the checkbox next to the addon's name to enable them.
